A Roguelike game is, traditionally, a 2-D dungeon crawl that features random level generation, in-depth character statistics, and a wider variety of possible actions than traditional RPGs. They also (and ADOM is no exception) feature a super-hardcore, 'one life to live' mentality. As referred to in the ADOM Manual, piety level is positively affected by the sacrifices made to the PC's god, and negatively affected by prayers. Remember that the value of sacrifices is dependent on race. Piety level constantly decreases with time, so sacrifices made in the early game will have little effect after many game turns have passed. Save scumming refers to the practice of copying your character's.svg file to somewhere else on the hardware (usually a seperate backup folder), in order to reuse that file should the character in question die in game and have his save file deleted. Batch files may be written in order to automate the process. Backing up your game to reload in case of a program crash is not considered save.

• When you save a game, go into 'adomdat' folder then enter the saved games. Copy your save file to another folder. When you die, the file in the original folder is destroyed, but not the other one. • The game will be saved and you can load it later to continue your game. You should make sure that you have enough free space on your disk before saving the game as ADOM will otherwise crash. You need about 30000 bytes plus 12000 bytes per level that you have explored.
